MEDITATIONS FROM THE GUTTER
Moalaudi Wa Sekake, scholar, activist and artist in conversation wtih Dr Lwazi Lushaba, Department of Political Studies, University of Cape Town
Those living in ‘the gutter’ is conventionally associated with living a subhuman existence, devoid of the qualities that we have come to associate with being human: art politics, culture and vitality. To live like a human being is the exclusive privilege of the wealthy, the propertied and the educated, of those considered worthy of humanity. The gutter is the very embodiment of alienation and lack. In this book Moloadi wa Sekake challenges this representations of ‘the gutter’ through affirming a self that is produced and reproduced by the particular historical realities of ‘the gutter’. In this session Moalaudi Wa Sekake, will discuss his latest book, Meditations from the Gutter with Dr Lwazi Lushaba.
